Coming Home Again

This morning Mom called me & said they ( Karen, Mom & Mike) were headed back to GBMC's ER.  Karen had been up all night long throwing up. They called Karen's Dr.  He was  concerned about a possible blocked bowel. He instructed them to head to the ER.    I just heard from Mom at 7:15 pm.  They are just leaving GBMC.  There was no bowel obstruction.  She was dehydrated & that combined w/ her reaction to her pain med's caused her to be so nauseous.  SO she is headed back home,  hydrated & w/ instructions to continue on a liquid diet & move around a bit more at home to get the digestive & bowel area going.

TJ   is feeling better today.  He is still icing & taking his pain meds as well.  He hopes to return to work tomorrow.  I will be heading home tomorrow as well.   His buddy from work will drive him around for a few days till he can move that area freely.

Dee has not been feeling well at all.  She drove herself to the Dr. while I was here b/c of how bad she was feeling.  He ordered  a c/t & x-ray.  I will schedule them when I get home.

Momma  is holding her own.  Since she has changed how she washes her hair, she has stopped her head from bleeding so much at her injury site.  She  continues too be  a huge help to Karen.

Home Sweet Home

Greetings all from NOLA.

Mike brought Karen home today.  She said the ride home  w/drugs, pillows & comforters went smoothly.  Mom was there & had everything ready for her homecoming.  (think there were any pretty lace pieces pulled out by Mom?) Our friend Gail brought a delicious dinner over for them to enjoy.  When I spoke w/ Karen she was sitting on the sofa next to Mike w/ Mom in the kitchen doing the dishes.  We ask that you continue to pray for her recovery & pain level.

T.J.'s surgery went well today.  They gave him a patch before he went in for surgery & extra medication in his IV to help him from being so nauseated.  It's the first time ever  he's not been terribly sick after a surgery.  PTL!!!!!!!! I brought him home &  got him re-iced.  Then I ran out to get his pain med's & antibiotics.  He follows up w/ his Dr. on Fri. morning.  Till then he is to lie still & keep ice on his incisional site.  He is uncomfortable, but managing the pain well.  His nurse is enjoying the Sox & Ray game....bottom of the 13th, tied , 1-1, w/ the patient.  We are also very thankful IKE is NOT headed this way.  Sorry Texas people...but sooooooo glad it is not coming this way.

Thank you for all your prayers.  We ask you continue to lift Dee, Mom, Karen & T.J. up as they all continue to heal.

Blessings for NOLA,
Kim

Update on next week surgeries

Sorry I sent ya'll the blog site but no info.  (little problem w/ my password & letting me update)

Karen is having surgery on Monday Sept. 8th.  Last year her ob/gyn found a few (5) small fibroids.  They have grown quickly & need to be removed.  The largest one is 4".  They must come out before they jeopardize her kidneys.  She will be having a full hysterectomy done w/ an abdominal incision.  She is having her ovaries removed as well. (If anyone has any info about keeping or taking the ovaries she would love to hear from you.)  She let her students & parents know yesterday that she would be gone for 4-6 weeks. She covets your prayers.  She looks forward to checking this site & hearing from ya'll.   Mom  will be moving in to help take care of her b/c I will be in New Orleans w/ T.J.

T.J. is having surgery on Sept. 10th.  Yes, believe it or not  he & Karen are both having surgery  2 days apart.   I will be leaving to go to NOLA the day of Karen's surgery.  T.J.'s hydrocele is back.  He had a surgery done at Hopkins in  Sept. of 1989  for a hydrocele. Different people have asked what is a hydrocele?  Hydrocele is a fluid filled sac surrounding his testicle.  It could be from an injury or from inflammation in the scrotum.  They will go in & locate the hydrocele & cut it free from the scrotal  contents.  The fluid in it will be drained & sewn together again to prevent refilling.    Suppose to be out-patient surgery.  That has never happened for T.J.  So we will be anxious to see how that goes.

Some of you have inquired about T.J. & Gustav.  He fled to the top of the Mississippi.  He had planned to visit Sandy & her family this past week-end.  But, his trip has been extended a bit.  The airport opened today.  There is still no power at the parking garage there, (his car is on the top level) and no power or water around NOLA.  His flight was cancelled for today.   As of now he is scheduled to get home tomorrow night. He took some valuables to a friend that lives on  higher ground.  But everyone he knew got out of there early on.  The HORNETS had a meeting on Thursday & were shut down that evening.

Mom is doing OK. The medications to prevent seizures is very strong. She does better when it wears off.   She did leave yesterday to go to Ocean City, NJ w/ Martha, Touche, Arlene, Helen & Jo Ann.  We're thrilled she is at the beach.  She missed her week in August b/c of everything thats going on health-wise around here.  The spot on the back of her head continues to bleed off & on.  But is healing.  Her cardiologist recommended she NOT go back on the Coumadin.  With  the little bit she was in AFIB he believes w/ some weight loss & returning to her walking she can stay off of it.  We were all thrilled to have her off of that drug.

Dee continues to battle her blood pressure.  Too high then too low.  She feels, "awful" a lot of the time.  She is already dreading fall & winter.

We ask that you pray for ALL of us.  So much going on at once.

Blessings to all of you,
Kim
